This dish gets its distinct taste from the addition of green chillies, black salt, chaat masala, onions and lemon juice. Even tamarind chutney and green coriander chutney can be added to this recipe to perk up the flavors more.
I have a childhood memory of having this hot chat from a vendor selling it on the cart on a chilled winter evening.
1 Cup Green/Black small Chana (Washed,soaked overnight and cooked in cooker till five whistles).
1 Onion Chopped.
1 Tomato Chopped.
1 Green Chilli finely chopped.
1 tbsp Chopped Coriander leaves.
1/4 tsp Roasted Cumin Powder.
1/4 tsp Rock Salt.
1/4 tsp Chat Masala.
Juice of 1/2 Lemon.
Salt to taste.
Wash and soak chana overnight.Add salt and water, cook in a pressure cooker upto five whistles.
Drain the excess water from chana,and keep aside.
In a bowl mix together all the ingredients.
Remove in a serving bowl,serve immediately.
Tip-Here I have used black chana,even green chanas can be used for this recipe.
Chatpata chana’s can also be topped up with whisked curds.
You can also use fresh green chana which is seasonally available in market for this receipe.
