Moong Dal & Oats Idli.

Idli is a very  common breakfast item across india and is made with different ingredients.Traditionally it is made with the combination of rice and urad dal which makes a soft and moist white idli.

Today’s recipe is a one dish meal,made with moong dal & oats and loaded with vegetables,healthy option for breakfast or lunch….

Ingredients:

1 cup Yellow Moong dal.

2 tbsp Oats.

1/4 cup Curds.

5 tbsp Grated Carrot.

2 tbsp Boiled Corns.

2 tbsp Finely chopped corriander leaves.

1 tsp Fruit salt.

Salt to taste.

For Tempering:

1 tsp Oil.

1/2 tsp Mustard seeds.

1/2 tsp Jeera.

1/8 tsp Hing.

6 Curry leaves.

2 Green Chillies finely chopped.

1 tsp Ginger grated.

1 tbsp Cashew nut piece.

Method:

Wash and soak moong dal in water overnight.

Next day grind the dal along with oats in a mixie to a thick paste using little water if required.Add curd mix well.Transfer the paste in a big bowl,keep aside.

IMG_20200619_125740In a pan heat oil,add all the tempering ingredients.

IMG_20200619_125414stir for a minute add carrot and corn,cook for 2 minutes.

IMG_20200619_125717Add the tempering to prepared batter,add corriander leaves and salt,mix well.

IMG_20200619_130016Keep water for boiling in idli cooker,grease the idli moulds using 1/2 tsp of oil,keep aside.

Add the fruit salt to the batter and mix it  gently.

IMG_20200619_130200Pour the mixture gently into greased idli moulds.

IMG_20200619_134455Steam in a steamer for 10 to 12 minutes.

Tip: Same batter can be steamed in a greased plate,cut into pieces and served as dhokla.

Same recipe can be made using green moong dal also.Other vegetables like grated cabbage and boiled green peas can also be added along with carrot.
