Moong Dal Idlis/Dhokla

This is an easy to follow,tasty and healthy snacks..


1 cup Green moong dal.

5 tbsp Grated Carrot.

2 tsp Ginger,Garlic & green chilli paste.

2 tbsp Besan

2 tbsp Finely chopped corriander leaves.

1 tsp Fruit salt.

Salt to taste.

1 tsp Oil.

1/2 tsp Mustard seeds.

1/2 tsp Jeera.

1/2 tsp Til.

6 Curry leaves.

1/4 cup Sev

2 tbsp chopped corriander leaves.

2 tbsp grated Carrot.


Roast the moong dal in a pan till the raw smell disappears.

Cool and soak in water overnight.

Next day grind the dal in a mixie to a thick paste using little water if required.

Transfer the paste in a big bowl,add grated carrots,ginger,garlic & green chilli paste,besan,corriander leaves and salt,mix well.

Mix the fruit salt in 2 tsp water and add to the mixture gently.

Grease the idli moulds using 1/2 tsp of oil,pour the mixture gently into greased idli moulds.

Steam in a steamer for 10 to 12 minutes.

Heat the remaining oil in a small pan,add mustard seeds,cumin seeds,til & curry leaves.

When the seeds crackle,pour it over the idlis.

Garnish with sev,grated carrot and chopped corriander leaves.

Serve hot.

Tip: Same batter can be steamed in a greased plate,cut into pieces and served as dhokla.

Other vegetables like cabbage and green peas can also be added along with carrot.
